Stand Out With A Windsor Knot For Your Necktie

Israel VarelaApparently there about 100 different ways to tie a necktie. Probably my most favorite though is the Windsor Knot. Not only does it look fashionable, it also makes you stand out from the other people with the standard tie knot in their necktie.

So where did the Windsor Knot originate from? In case you didn’t know 1930’s American fashion was influenced by Fred Astaire and the Duke of Windsor (formally  Edward VIII) who both had a major influence on men’s neckwear decisions. Surprisingly and unknown to may people the Windsor Knot originated from the Duke of Windsor and his Grandfather King Edward VII. It is said that both these men chose to wear their neckties in a way that formed a wide triangular knot.

The Duke of Windsor visited the United States in the 1930’s and his fashion style was a big hit with the Americans. It is said that the Duke of Windsor’s fashion style was adopted by many people because it was more comfortable and relaxed fit.

I usually wear a wide or spread collar when I opt for the Windsor Knot. It is a firmer knot that holds in place better throughout the day. The Windsor Knot is a much more comfortable fit as it doesn’t only hold in place, but also keeps ample space between the neck and collar. The large knot helps to make the fabric of the necktie stand out more, and it is symmetrical in nature. You can always choose to go with a dimple, double dimple, or go flat with the Windsor Knot.

Okay so you’re probably wondering how in the heck do I tie a Windsor Knot in my necktie. Great question! I’m glad you asked. Below is an easy to follow diagram.
